Investigators are working to identify an adult woman after partial human remains were discovered Saturday morning along Interstate 275 near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
The Florida Highway Patrol received a report at approximately 7:48 a.m. Saturday of a body found along the northbound lanes of I-275 near the bridge. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area, where deputies and detectives confirmed that the remains belonged to an adult woman.
Investigators believe the woman may have been in the water for several days before her remains washed ashore.
Authorities have not released an estimated age, physical description or other information that could help identify the woman. The circumstances surrounding her death also remain under investigation.
An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday. The examination is expected to assist investigators in determining the woman’s identity and cause and manner of death.
Detectives are asking anyone who may have information about a missing adult woman or information that could be connected to the discovery to contact the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office at 941-747-3011.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
