Paws & Pints in Parrish Offers Look at Life-Changing Work of Dogs Inc
Dogs Inc, a Palmetto-based nonprofit that trains guide and service dogs for people across the country, will bring puppies and local volunteer puppy raisers to Parrish for Paws & Pints on Thursday, Aug. 13.
The free community event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Good Liquid Brewing, 8980 U.S. 301, Unit 138, in Parrish.
Paws & Pints will allow attendees to meet puppies and the volunteers helping prepare them for future careers as guide or service dogs. Local puppy raisers will be available to explain what goes into raising a puppy and how community members can become involved.
Dogs Inc is headquartered at 4210 77th St. E. in Palmetto and has been creating guide and service dog teams since 1982. The organization has created thousands of teams throughout the United States and currently oversees the well-being of more than 1,200 puppies and dogs.
Its programs include guide dogs for people with vision loss as well as service dogs for veterans, Gold Star family members and people with Type 1 diabetes. Dogs Inc also works with skilled companion and therapy dogs.
The nonprofit provides its dogs and services at no cost to recipients. Its work includes selective breeding, canine health and development research, puppy raising, professional dog training, on-campus instruction for clients and continued support after dogs are placed.
Dogs Inc is accredited by both the International Guide Dog Federation and Assistance Dogs International.
Volunteer puppy raisers are part of the process of preparing young dogs for their future work. Paws & Pints offers Manatee County residents a chance to learn more about that role while meeting some of the puppies currently on their journey toward becoming working dogs.
Paws & Pints is free and open to the public from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at Good Liquid Brewing in Parrish.
