Pedestrian Killed While Crossing U.S. 301 in Late-Night Crash
A 25-year-old Palmetto woman died Wednesday night after she was struck by a car while attempting to cross U.S. 301, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the woman had been walking north along the left paved shoulder of the highway around 10:40 p.m. when she moved to cross the roadway south of 63rd Avenue East. As she stepped into the northbound left lane, she entered the path of an approaching Lexus traveling in the same direction.
The driver was unable to avoid the collision, and the vehicle struck the woman as she crossed the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency personnel.
FHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details about the driver or potential contributing factors were immediately released.
