PGA Tour Champions Tournament Postponed Until 2025 Due to Hurricane Impact
The highly anticipated return of the PGA Tour Champions’ World Champions Cup to Manatee County has been postponed until 2025 due to the impact of recent hurricanes. Tournament organizers announced that the event, which debuted at The Concession Golf Club in 2023, will not take place in 2024 following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.
The inaugural tournament, held last December, saw Team USA, captained by Jim Furyk, claim victory over Team International and Team Europe. The event, which featured some of golf’s biggest names, including Steve Stricker, Justin Leonard, and David Toms, was scheduled for December 5-8, 2024. However, organizers determined that postponing the tournament was the best course of action in light of the recent storms and their aftermath.
Manatee County sustained significant damage from both Hurricane Milton, which caused an estimated $351 million in damages, and Hurricane Helene, which left $358 million worth of destruction in its wake. While the Bradenton area was largely spared, the overall impact of the hurricanes on the county made it challenging to proceed with the event as planned.
The World Champions Cup, which was televised nationally on ABC and ESPN in 2023, will return in 2025, though the full PGA Tour Champions schedule for that year has not yet been released. Tournament officials are committed to ensuring a top-tier experience for fans and participants when the event makes its return.
