Tre Phelps’ two-hit night was squandered in an 8-2 loss for the Bradenton Marauders (22-36, 53-70) against the Lakeland Flying Tigers (31-28, 62-62) on Thursday from LECOM Park. Antonio Pimentel and Carl Calixte drove in the two runs for Bradenton, while the bullpen combined to allow just one run over 6.2 frames.
After the Flying Tigers put together seven runs in the top of the third, the Marauders plated a run in the bottom of the sixth. Phelps and Brent Iredale collected back-to-back singles, while Bralyn Brazoban walked to load the bases. A groundout from Calixte allowed Phelps to score and make it 7-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Chris Rembert walked, Phelps singled, and Iredale walked to load the bases. Pimentel grounded out, scoring Rembert to make it a 7-2 ballgame.
Lakeland plated a run in the top of the eighth and kept Bradenton scoreless the rest of the night to finalize an 8-2 win.
Yendy Gomez (8-3) earned the win, collecting four strikeouts over 1.2 scoreless innings. Jeter Martinez (2-7) took the loss, letting up seven runs on six hits, a walk, and two strikeouts over 2.1 frames.
The Marauders and Flying Tigers play a doubleheader on Friday with first pitch set for 5:00 p.m.
