Pickup Truck Found Submerged at SR-64 Boat Ramp, Driver Hospitalized
A 23-year-old man was hospitalized early Sunday morning after his pickup truck ended up in the water at the SR-64 boat ramp.
Police said the man walked into a BP gas station on Manatee Avenue around 3:20 a.m. and reported waking up in the passenger seat of the submerged vehicle. Officers located the truck at the ramp and confirmed no other occupants were inside.
Investigators determined the vehicle belonged to the man. Tire tracks at the scene indicated that the truck had left the eastbound lanes of Manatee Avenue, descended the embankment, and came to rest in the mangroves.
The boat ramp parking area was temporarily closed but reopened around 7:45 a.m. as the investigation concluded.
