The Bradenton Marauders (21-34, 52-68) split a doubleheader with the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (29-27, 66-55) on Wednesday from Hammond Stadium. Bradenton earned a 10-3 win in game one but fell 1-0 in game two. Irwin Ramirez collected a season-high six strikeouts during his game two start, while Jack Scanlon drove in three runs in game one.
In game one, the Marauders began the scoring in the top of the first off Mighty Mussels starter Jui-Chieh Lin. Mike Jarvis was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a single by Antonio Pimentel. Tre Phelps singled, scoring Jarvis to make it 1-0. Eddie King Jr. walked to load the bases and Brent Iredale worked a walk to score Pimentel. Scanlon and Bralyn Brazoban worked back-to-back walks, plating two runs to make it a 5-0 ballgame.
In the top of the second, Bradenton increased the lead off Fort Myers reliever Jackson Sleeper. King Jr. walked, stole second, and came around to score on a single by Iredale. After moving up to second, Iredale was plated on a base hit by Brazoban to make it a 7-0 ballgame.
With one out in the top of the fifth, Brazoban walked, moved to second on a single from Carl Calixte, and reached third on a throwing error to put a runner in scoring position. Cristian Jauregui brought homer Brazoban with a sacrifice fly to make it 8-0.
After Fort Myers put together three runs in the bottom of the fifth, Bradenton responded in the top of the sixth. King Jr. singled, Iredale walked, and Scanlon doubled to score King Jr. and Iredale to make it a 10-3 ballgame.
Inmar Lobo closed it down in the seventh, finalizing a 10-3 win for Bradenton.
In game two, the Mighty Mussels scored the first run in the bottom of the fifth against Ramirez. Bradenton went scoreless the rest of the way to finalize a 1-0 win for Fort Myers.
The Marauders and Mighty Mussels play game four of a seven-game series on Thursday with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
