Ramirez Smashes Homer Despite 12-3 Loss for Marauders
Iredale socks solo home run, Herrera walks in Single-A debut
Richard Ramirez smashed his 15th homer of the season despite a 12-3 loss for the Bradenton Marauders (16-27, 47-61) to the Lakeland Flying Tigers (19-23, 50-57) on Wednesday from Publix Field. Brent Iredale socked a solo home run in the eighth, while Kendrick Herrera worked an RBI walk during his Single-A debut.
After a five-run bottom of the second from the Flying Tigers offense, the Marauders responded with two runs in the top of the fourth. Ramirez homered over the right field wall, cutting the deficit, 5-1. Iredale and Bralyn Brazoban worked back-to-back walks, while Cristian Jauregui reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases. Herrera worked a walk, scoring Iredale to make it a 5-2 ballgame.
Lakeland put together three runs in the bottom of the fourth, a run in the fifth, and three in the sixth to make it 12-2.
Iredale homered in the top of the eighth, but Bradenton went scoreless the rest of the way to finalize a 12-3 win for Lakeland.
Frenny Grant (1-0) notched the win, striking out three over 1.2 scoreless frames. Zander Mueth (0-3) took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks over 3.0 innings.
The Marauders and Flying Tigers play game three of a six-game series on Thursday with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
