Re-entry Begins for Southern Longboat Key Residents Following Storm, Restoration Efforts Underway
As of 5:00 PM Saturday, re-entry to Longboat Key has been partially approved following recent storm damage, allowing residents south of 4052 Gulf of Mexico Drive, including the area near Bayfront Park, to return to their properties. Due to unsafe conditions in the northern parts of the island, re-entry is restricted beyond this location while cleanup and repairs continue.
The town’s Public Works Department (PWD) is actively working to repair a broken main waterline, which has affected service to much of the island. Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) crews remain on-site, ensuring the safety and clearance of roadways. Power restoration efforts are ongoing, with Florida Power & Light (FPL) making steady progress in bringing electricity back to affected areas.
Officials urge residents to remain cautious during re-entry and to stay updated through the town's website for further information on continuing recovery efforts. Residents north of 4052 Gulf of Mexico Drive will need to wait for additional clearance before they can safely return.
