Reconstruction Begins on Anna Maria Island Pier, Businesses Eager for Return of Visitors
ANNA MARIA ISLAND — Construction is officially underway to rebuild the Anna Maria Island Pier, which was destroyed during last year’s hurricanes. The project marks a major milestone for residents and business owners who have long awaited the return of one of the island’s most beloved landmarks.
For local shop owner Morgan Bryant, who operates Cool Beans A.M.I. near the pier entrance, the news brings a sense of optimism. Before the hurricanes, the pier drew steady crowds of visitors who arrived by ferry, many of whom would browse nearby shops and restaurants. The loss of the pier resulted in a noticeable decline in foot traffic and weekend sales for surrounding businesses.
In October, city officials approved a contract to reconstruct the structure at a cost between $6.2 million and $6.9 million. The rebuild will restore the iconic walkway and public access area, serving as both a recreational hub and a boost for the local economy.
According to the construction timeline, the new pier is expected to be completed by March 31, 2026. Until then, businesses and residents alike are looking forward to seeing the familiar sight of visitors strolling the pier once again.
