Red Cross Hosts Community Information Session
On September 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the American Red Cross Disaster Cycle Services Team will hold a community session at Rite Technology, 1744 Independence Blvd., Sarasota.
The event will feature food and refreshments while providing residents with opportunities to learn about partnerships and volunteer placements with the Red Cross. Information will be available on how local organizations can become shelter partners, offering facilities during emergencies such as hurricanes, floods, or large-scale fires. The Red Cross relies on community partners to provide safe spaces for families displaced by disasters, and the process begins with a facility pre-survey and site visit to assess readiness.
Attendees will also be able to explore volunteer opportunities, including shelter support, disaster response, and preparedness education. QR codes linking directly to the Red Cross Partner Interest Form and the Volunteer Interest and Placement Form will be provided for those who want to get involved.
The Red Cross emphasizes the importance of community engagement, noting that volunteers and partners play a vital role in ensuring a rapid, effective response when disaster strikes.
