Reward Increased in Search for Bradenton Murder Suspect Wanted in March Double Shooting
The reward for information leading to the arrest of a Bradenton man wanted in connection with a fatal March double shooting has increased to $19,500 as authorities continue searching for him nearly two months after the incident.
According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, 35-year-old Maurice McCary is wanted in connection with a March 8 shooting at the intersection of 14th Street West and 53rd Avenue West in Bradenton. Investigators said two men were stopped at a traffic light when McCary allegedly pulled alongside their vehicle and fired multiple shots.
Authorities said 27-year-old Jamari Murray-Barnes was killed in the shooting, while the second victim survived after being hospitalized.
Detectives said the shooting followed a fight involving the three men at a local bar two days earlier. An arrest warrant was issued for McCary on March 13. He is facing a charge of second-degree murder in connection with Murray-Barnes’ death and is expected to face additional charges related to the surviving victim.
Investigators said McCary is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs about 175 pounds and may also go by the street name “D’Low.”
Several organizations have contributed to the growing reward fund for information leading to his arrest. The most recent contribution came from the Florida Sheriffs Association Criminal Apprehension Assistance Program, which added $5,000 to the total.
