SCF Coding Academy Celebrates Strong Certification Success and Expands Access to Workforce Training
The Coding Academy within the Lifelong Learning and Workforce Development department at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, is seeing impressive results in its mission to prepare students for in-demand technology careers. As a non-credit program focused on industry certifications rather than traditional degrees, the academy is helping learners quickly gain practical, job-ready skills.
The first cohort of the year delivered standout performance, with 85 percent of students passing their certification exams on the first attempt at the conclusion of the intensive eight-week program. The results reflect not only student dedication but also the strength of the academy’s instructional approach. Instructors bring deep subject knowledge and a hands-on teaching style, guiding students through both the technical concepts and applied skills needed to succeed in certification testing and real-world environments.
Among the success stories is Jason Miller, a SCF graduate who completed the Python course and now gives back as an adjunct instructor with SCF Youth Enrichment. His work teaching coding and cybersecurity to younger students highlights the program’s broader impact, creating a cycle of learning and mentorship that extends into the community. His journey represents how the college fosters lasting relationships and pathways for continued growth.
Accessibility remains a central focus of the program. Eligible students can take advantage of full scholarships through the Open Door initiative, offering opportunities for individuals who are underemployed, seeking career advancement, or looking to transition into new fields without the financial burden often associated with higher education. The program also appeals to students who want to complement a degree with industry-recognized certifications.
New cohorts are scheduled throughout the year, allowing students to begin training without long wait times. Upcoming sessions starting the week of April 20 include courses in UX/UI design, Python, WordPress, and AWS Cloud Practitioner, with CompTIA Security+ courses launching in May. The rolling schedule ensures continued access to training aligned with evolving workforce demands.
With strong outcomes, dedicated instructors, and expanded access through scholarship opportunities, SCF’s Coding Academy continues to position itself as a key resource for individuals seeking to build or advance careers in technology.
