School Board Begins Public Input Process to Name Tennis Courts Near Martha B. King Middle School
The School District of Manatee County has opened the public naming process for the tennis courts located in the park adjacent to Martha B. King Middle School, following nominations to recognize two influential figures in the sport of tennis.
During its June 23 meeting, the Manatee County School Board approved advertising the proposal to name the facility the DePalmer–Bollettieri Courts. The nominations were submitted by community members and Manatee County Government in recognition of the lasting contributions of Mike DePalmer and Nick Bollettieri to both the local community and the game of tennis.
Under School Board Policy 7250, Commemoration of School Facilities, the district follows a formal process for naming school facilities or portions of facilities after individuals who have made significant contributions to the School District or the community.
The policy requires a 60-day public notice and input period before the School Board can take final action. During that time, residents have the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed name.
Following the public input period, the naming proposal will return to the School Board for consideration. A final vote is currently scheduled for the board’s Sept. 8, 2026, meeting.
