The School District of Manatee County is inviting families to combine reading, entertainment and time together during two free Family Literacy Movie Nights planned for September.
The district is partnering with Manatee County Government to host the events at county library locations, with each evening featuring a family-friendly film centered on themes such as perseverance, determination and family.
The first Family Literacy Movie Night will be held Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lakewood Ranch Branch Library, 16410 Rangeland Parkway in Bradenton.
Families will watch the 1993 film Rudy, which tells the story of a young man determined to overcome obstacles and achieve his goal of playing football for Notre Dame. The event is free, and snacks will be provided. Registration is required.
A second movie night is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Island Branch Library, 5701 Marina Drive in Holmes Beach.
That evening will feature Disney’s 2007 animated film Meet the Robinsons. The movie focuses on perseverance and family while encouraging viewers to continue moving forward despite challenges. The event is also free, with snacks provided and advance registration required.
Both events are presented by the School District of Manatee County in partnership with Manatee County and are part of the district’s Family Literacy programming.
Families interested in attending must register in advance using the QR code provided on the promotional flyer for their selected event.
