Selby Foundation Awards $50,000 Grant to Foundation for Dreams for Dream Oaks Camp 2.0 Renovations
The Foundation for Dreams is thrilled to announce it has received a $50,000 grant from the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation to support the renovation of one of the campus buildings at Dream Oaks Camp 2.0. This generous gift will fund vital improvements to flooring and shared common spaces, helping ensure the environment is safe, welcoming, and functional for children with special needs.
Dream Oaks Camp 2.0 represents a bold new chapter for the organization. Located at the former Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranch in Rye Preserve, the new campus features seven buildings and expansive outdoor areas that will allow the Foundation to expand its year-round programming. This growth will support more children with special needs and chronic illnesses throughout Manatee, Sarasota, and surrounding counties.
“We are deeply honored and grateful to the Selby Foundation for believing in our vision,” said Elena Cassella, Executive Director of Foundation for Dreams. “This investment allows us to build a stronger foundation—literally and figuratively—for the children we serve. Dream Oaks Camp 2.0 reflects our long-term commitment to creating opportunities where every child can grow, connect, and create meaningful relationships.”
Renovations to the Selby-funded building are currently underway, with a goal of completion by the end of the year. The project includes the installation of new, durable flooring and the revitalization of communal areas to support daily activities and enhance camper experiences.
The Selby Foundation approved funds for the specific capital expenditures outlined in the Foundation’s grant application. These upgrades are being completed as promptly as possible to avoid rising costs and to keep the project timeline on track.
“For many years, Foundation for Dreams has provided a dependable, safe, and uplifting place for children and families to have meaningful experiences that build community and work from individualized plans. We are honored to contribute to their new campus, where we know the mission will continue to grow and thrive, together with every child and family touched there.”
Now in its 70th year, the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation continues to help students and nonprofits gain access to opportunity through renewable four-year scholarships and impactful capital grants. Bill and Marie Selby were humble people who lived below their means and dedicated their resources to people in our community. For more information, visit SelbyFdn.org.
