Seventeen Cats and Dogs Safe After Animal Transport Van Crashes on I-275 in Manatee County
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a crash involving an animal transport van on Interstate 275 in Manatee County on Wednesday afternoon.
According to FHP, troopers were dispatched at 1:17 p.m. to the area near mile marker 9.5, where they found a Chevrolet van registered to Friends of Strays Inc. The vehicle had been traveling northbound when it appeared to experience a mechanical issue, causing it to rotate counterclockwise and veer onto the east shoulder of the highway.
The left rear of the van struck a concrete barrier wall before coming to a stop. The driver was not injured, but another passenger may have sustained minor injuries related to the crash, troopers said.
Seventeen cats and dogs were being transported in the van at the time of the incident. All animals were safely recovered and accounted for following the crash.
No further details have been released as the investigation continues.
