Sewer Smoke Testing Scheduled in Palmetto for June 9–13
Palmetto residents are advised that sewer smoke testing will take place from June 9 through June 13, 2025. The testing will be conducted by McKim & Creed, a contractor working on behalf of the City of Palmetto's Public Works department.
This process is a routine method used to detect damage in sewer lines, poor connections, and sources of rainwater infiltration. During the procedure, a non-toxic, non-staining white or gray smoke is introduced into the sewer system. The smoke may appear from vent stacks or ground openings, but it is entirely safe for people and pets and does not pose a fire hazard.
Homes and businesses with properly functioning plumbing should not experience any smoke entering their buildings. However, if smoke does appear indoors, it may be a sign of a plumbing defect.
Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact McKim & Creed at 727-442-7196.
