Sheriff Rick Wells Receives 2026 Distinguished Citizen “Good Scout” Award
Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells was honored with the 2026 Distinguished Citizen “Good Scout” Award by Scouting America’s Southwest Florida Council during its annual Million Dollar Day event.
The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional service to their communities and who positively influence the lives of young people. Wells was selected for his long-standing commitment to youth development and his contributions to programs that support leadership and character building across Manatee County and throughout Florida.
Over the past decade, Wells has maintained a close relationship with local scouting programs. His involvement has included visits to Camp Flying Eagle, participation in scouting events, and teaching law enforcement–related classes to scouts interested in public service careers.
Sheriff Wells expressed appreciation for the recognition and emphasized the importance of organizations like Scouting in shaping the next generation. Programs focused on character, discipline, and ethical leadership play a key role in preparing young people to become responsible citizens and future leaders in their communities.
The Distinguished Citizen “Good Scout” Award is presented annually to community leaders who reflect the values of the scouting movement and who help strengthen opportunities for youth through mentorship, service, and civic engagement.
