Bradenton, FL—Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson addressed the Bradenton Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, sharing insights into the state’s agricultural policies and priorities. Focusing on protecting Florida's farmland and traditional agricultural practices, Simpson emphasized the importance of ensuring the security and sustainability of the state’s farming industry.
During the meeting, Simpson outlined his department's efforts to limit foreign ownership of agricultural lands, particularly by entities tied to nations considered adversaries of the United States. He stressed the need to protect Florida’s food supply and national security. Simpson also touched on the state’s recent legislation banning lab-grown meats, underscoring its role in preserving traditional farming and ranching industries.
The Commissioner highlighted the long-term success of Florida’s Best Management Practices (BMPs), which over the past 30 years have contributed significantly to reducing nutrient runoff and improving water quality across the state.
Florida Senator Jim Boyd, who will assume the role of Florida Senate President in 2026, was in attendance. Boyd’s presence reinforced the collaborative efforts between Florida’s legislative and agricultural leadership to address the industry's challenges.
The event allowed community leaders, including the Bradenton Kiwanis, to discuss how state policies are shaping the future of Florida agriculture.
