Southwest Florida Honor Flight is encouraging military veterans throughout the region, including Manatee County, to apply for an opportunity to visit Washington, D.C., and receive recognition for their service to the nation.
The nonprofit organization provides veterans with a special day of honor, transporting them to the nation’s capital to visit memorials dedicated to the sacrifices and contributions of American service members.
Applications are open to U.S. military veterans who have not previously participated in an Honor Flight. Veterans who served during wartime or peacetime, whether in combat or stateside, are encouraged to apply.
Due to high demand, applicants are currently being placed on a waiting list averaging approximately three flights, depending on individual circumstances. Priority is given to World War II and Korean War veterans, along with veterans facing life-limiting illnesses.
Southwest Florida Honor Flight currently conducts two missions each year, making early applications important for veterans interested in participating.
The organization is also asking family members, friends, and community members to help identify eligible veterans and encourage them to apply.
Veterans and their families can obtain applications through the organization’s website at swflhonorflight.org.
Applications can also be picked up or submitted during the organization’s monthly Hub Meeting on Wednesday, October 28, at 7 p.m. at Kings Gate Golf Club in Port Charlotte.
Southwest Florida Honor Flight’s mission is to safely transport veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials honoring their service and provide the recognition and appreciation they have earned.
Veterans throughout Manatee County and Southwest Florida are encouraged to apply and take part in this opportunity to be honored for their military service.
