A robbery suspect was shot and killed by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team on Wednesday evening after opening fire on deputies during a standoff in Bayshore Gardens.
Deputies and SWAT personnel arrived at a residence in the 800 block of 63rd Avenue West around 6 p.m. to serve a search warrant connected to an armed robbery investigation. Authorities said the suspect fired multiple shots at deputies as they approached the home, prompting a tactical response.
During several hours of negotiations, the barricaded suspect allegedly fired additional shots at law enforcement. SWAT members returned fire, striking and fatally wounding the individual.
No deputies were injured during the incident. The Sheriff’s Office said the suspect’s name will be released once his family has been notified.
The roadway in the area was closed for several hours as the investigation continued. The shooting remains under review by the Sheriff’s Office.
