Suspect Arrested After Repeat Diesel Theft Using Stolen Credit Cards at Cortez Road Walmart
A man previously caught on camera purchasing diesel fuel with a stolen credit card at a Walmart on Cortez Road has been identified and arrested after returning to the same location and committing the same crime again, authorities said.
The original incident occurred on October 17, when the suspect used a stolen credit card to purchase 44 gallons of diesel fuel. While following up on that case, Detective Scanlan was at the Cortez Road Walmart when store employees alerted him that the same truck was back at the gas pumps.
Detective Scanlan observed the suspect filling his vehicle with approximately $150 worth of diesel before conducting a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Sergio Gonzalez-Chinque. Investigators determined that Gonzalez-Chinque had used a stolen credit card number to pay for the fuel, and that the card number differed from the one used during the October 17 incident.
Gonzalez-Chinque was taken into custody and now faces two counts of fraudulent use of a credit card and two counts of petty theft. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are possible as detectives continue reviewing related activity.
