Suspect Arrested in 2022 Sunshine Skyway Pier Murder

An arrest has been made in connection with the 2022 murder of Diomicio Primitivo Ibarra-Hernandez, which took place nearly two years ago at the Sunshine Skyway South Fishing Pier.

Authorities announced that Alex Martinez, 34, was apprehended on Monday in Plant City by the U.S. Marshals Task Force. He had been wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Ibarra-Hernandez, 26, during what authorities described as a drug deal gone wrong.

Martinez faces several charges, including felony murder with a firearm. After his arrest, he was taken to the Hillsborough County Jail, where he is currently being held. Officials say that he will eventually be transferred to Manatee County to face charges.

The arrest brings a key development in the case, which had remained unsolved for nearly two years following the deadly shooting in October 2022.
