Swim Lesson Voucher Program Accepting Applications to Help Prevent Child Drownings
Families across Florida are encouraged to apply for the Swim Lesson Voucher Program, a statewide initiative designed to help prevent child drownings by making swim lessons more accessible to families with financial need.
The program provides vouchers for free swim lessons to eligible children in households with incomes at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. By removing cost as a barrier, the initiative aims to expand access to water safety education and help protect children in communities across the state.
Applicants who are selected will receive one voucher that can be redeemed for eight free swim lessons with an approved swim instructor or facility listed on the Water Smart FL website. The lessons are intended to help children build foundational swimming skills and increase water safety awareness.
Applications are currently open, and families interested in participating must submit their applications by March 20, 2026. Recipients selected for the program will be notified during the final week of March.
Florida leaders and safety advocates have continued to emphasize the importance of early swim instruction as a key strategy in reducing drowning incidents, which remain one of the leading causes of accidental death among young children.
