Teen Killed, Another Critically Injured in Early-Morning Motorcycle Crash on State Road 70
One teenager was killed and another was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a crash early Monday on State Road 70 in Manatee County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. near Caruso Road, where eastbound lanes of State Road 70 were closed as investigators worked the scene. Authorities said a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were traveling on a motorcycle when they were involved in a collision with a sedan.
The 16-year-old was pronounced dead, while the 17-year-old was transported to a nearby hospital with critical injuries, FHP Senior Trooper Kenn Watson reported.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol and deputies from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office remained on scene for several hours as the investigation continued. Details regarding the cause of the crash and whether any charges will be filed have not yet been released.
Motorists were advised to expect delays in the area while eastbound lanes remained closed during the investigation.
