Teen Suspects Arrested in Parrish Following Targeted Tampa Shooting That Injured Two
Two teenage suspects are in custody following a targeted shooting in Tampa that left two individuals injured on Thursday afternoon.
Officers with the Tampa Police Department responded to reports of gunfire on April 16, 2026, in the 3600 block of Machado Street. Upon arrival, officers located two victims, an 18-year-old and a 15-year-old, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers administered immediate first aid before Tampa Fire Rescue transported the victims to a nearby hospital. Authorities confirmed the injuries were not life-threatening.
Initial reports indicated as many as three suspects may have been involved. Detectives worked overnight gathering evidence, reviewing witness statements, and following leads. Their investigation ultimately identified two suspects: 18-year-old Jaquez Lawson and 17-year-old Darrian Wise. Investigators determined the incident stemmed from a targeted confrontation.
The suspects were later tracked to Parrish, Florida, after detectives identified a 2015 silver Hyundai with noticeable damage, believed to be connected to the shooting. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office assisted in locating the vehicle and apprehending both suspects as they exited a residence under construction. Deputies also recovered two firearms at the scene, which were taken into evidence.
Wise faces charges of attempted murder and minor in possession of a firearm, while Lawson has been charged with attempted murder. Both were booked into the Manatee County Jail and are awaiting transfer back to Hillsborough County to face prosecution.
Authorities say the case highlights ongoing concerns about youth access to firearms and the escalation of disputes into violence, while also underscoring the importance of interagency cooperation and community assistance in bringing suspects into custody.
