Three Arrested in Connection with August 25 Fatal Shooting in Bradenton
The Bradenton Police Department has arrested three suspects in connection with the August 25 shooting death of 15-year-old Kayvon Dunbar.
Zyquan Kit, 17, Jeremiah Lilly, 18, and Star Stewart, 15, are each charged with felony murder with a firearm. Police say the charges stem from an attempted armed robbery that turned deadly in the 400 block of 11th Avenue East shortly before midnight on August 25.
When officers arrived, they found Dunbar suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. Detectives later determined that Dunbar, along with Kit, Lilly, and Stewart, had planned to rob a man identified as Kit’s drug dealer. According to investigators, the group invited the man to the residence, where Kit attempted to distract him. The man reportedly noticed the masked suspects approaching, two of whom were armed, and fired in self-defense. One of the suspects returned fire, and Dunbar was fatally shot during the exchange.
Because Dunbar’s death occurred during the commission of an attempted armed robbery, his three alleged accomplices were charged with felony murder. The State Attorney’s Office for the 12th Judicial Circuit will decide whether the suspects will be prosecuted as adults.
The case remains under investigation.
