Three Manatee County Graduates Earn Prestigious National Merit Scholarships
Three graduates from Manatee County high schools have been recognized among the nation’s top academic achievers after being named recipients of National Merit Scholarships sponsored by colleges and universities across the country.
More than 2,500 students nationwide were announced as winners in the latest round of National Merit Scholarships, a highly competitive program that recognizes outstanding academic performance and potential for future success.
Among the scholarship recipients are Kevin Chen, a graduate of Braden River High School, who plans to pursue a career in chemical engineering; Richard M. Lay, a graduate of Manatee High School, who intends to study materials engineering; and Benjamin Barr, a graduate of Palmetto High School, who plans to enter the field of engineering.
All three students received National Merit scholarships through the University of Florida, earning recognition for their exceptional academic accomplishments and dedication throughout their high school careers.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is one of the most respected academic recognition programs in the country, honoring students who demonstrate outstanding achievement through academic performance, standardized testing, leadership, and extracurricular involvement.
The recognition places Chen, Lay, and Barr among an elite group of scholars nationwide and highlights the academic excellence being achieved by students across Manatee County schools. Their accomplishments also reflect the strong educational opportunities available within the district and serve as an inspiration for future graduates pursuing higher education and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields.
