Truck Crashes Into Manatee County Home, Lands on Sleeping Resident
A 62-year-old Manatee County resident is recovering after a pickup truck crashed through his home early Tuesday morning and landed directly on top of him while he slept in his bedroom.
The crash occurred shortly after midnight at the intersection of Tournament Boulevard and West Country Club Drive near Palm Aire Country Club. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 54-year-old driver operating a Ford F-150 failed to stop at a stop sign, causing the truck to leave the roadway and crash into the residence.
The impact sent the truck completely through the exterior wall and into the homeowner’s bedroom, where it came to rest on top of the bed. Emergency responders worked to free the trapped resident from beneath the vehicle before transporting him to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities reported that he survived the crash and suffered injuries, though his current condition has not been publicly released.
Neighbors who were awakened by the sound of the collision rushed to the scene and found the truck embedded inside the home. The driver remained inside the vehicle following the crash and was described as coherent by witnesses.
Florida Highway Patrol investigators said the driver was not impaired by alcohol or drugs. Troopers believe distraction or fatigue may have contributed to the crash, though the investigation remains ongoing.
The collision left extensive damage to the residence, creating a large opening in the structure. Neighbors later helped secure the property by boarding up the damaged area.
Residents of the neighborhood said the intersection has experienced multiple crashes over the years and expressed concerns about traffic safety. Some noted that reflective warning signs had previously been installed after earlier incidents, but they were unable to prevent Tuesday’s crash.
The driver is expected to face charges related to running the stop sign, and investigators said additional charges could be considered as the investigation continues.
Authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash while community members call for additional safety measures at the intersection to prevent similar incidents in the future.
