Turning Points and Partners Host 26th Annual Manatee County Stand Down to Aid Veterans and Community Members in Need
Turning Points, alongside a network of more than 50 local organizations and sponsors, is set to host the 26th Annual Manatee County Stand Down on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Manatee County Fairgrounds, located at 1303 17th St. West in Palmetto. This event aims to provide critical services and resources to veterans, non-veterans, and individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
With a particular focus on helping veterans, Stand Down offers a broad range of essential services, from general and mental health exams to dental and vision care. Attendees can also access hygiene products, hot meals, haircuts, and participate in a career fair. A notable feature of the event is the Stand Down Amnesty Court, which has previously helped veterans resolve over $90,000 in fines and court fees. Veterans from both Manatee and Sarasota counties are encouraged to bring necessary identification documents for court services.
This year marks the first-time involvement of Tunnel to Towers as both a sponsor and veterans’ service provider, joining a list of established supporters, including MCR Health, Manasota Elks, Lakewood Ranch/Sarasota Elks, Manatee County Government, and many others.
Amid the challenges brought on by three recent hurricanes, organizers stress the importance of ensuring that those in need have access to the help required to stabilize their lives. Stand Down welcomes all community members, underscoring that everyone who attends will receive support.
In addition to the vital services provided, the event promises camaraderie, live music, and fun for all attendees. Over 500 participants, including volunteers, are expected. The day kicks off with an opening ceremony at 8:00 a.m., followed by service delivery and activities throughout the morning.
Turning Points continues its mission to combat homelessness by offering a range of services designed to foster financial stability and independence. From medical and dental care to rental assistance and employment services, the organization remains a crucial resource for those in crisis.
