Two 14-Year-Olds Arrested in Sutton Park Bathroom Fire
Palmetto police have arrested two 14-year-old boys in connection with a fire that damaged public restrooms at Sutton Park, following an investigation that relied heavily on community tips.
According to the Palmetto Police Department, the incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Sutton Park. Authorities said the teens set a toilet paper rack on fire inside the public bathrooms, causing thousands of dollars in damage.
Police Chief Scott Tyler said officers responded after receiving multiple calls from people in the park and others passing by who reported smoke coming from the restroom building. Witness statements helped narrow the investigation, including information suggesting the suspects lived in the surrounding area.
On Friday afternoon, the police department announced on social media that the suspects had been identified with public help. Both juveniles have been charged with arson.
Police officials thanked community members who called or emailed tips, emphasizing that the cooperation played a key role in resolving the case.
