Two Killed in Separate Fatal I-75 Crashes in Manatee County Within Hours
Two people were killed in separate crashes on Interstate 75 in Manatee County just hours apart Thursday, prompting the Florida Highway Patrol to remind motorists about the importance of seatbelt use and avoiding distractions behind the wheel.
The first crash occurred Thursday night when an 18-year-old Parrish woman was driving an SUV on I-75. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, she lost control of the vehicle while changing lanes, struck a concrete barrier and overturned multiple times. She was ejected from the SUV and died at the scene.
Troopers said the crash underscores the critical role seatbelts play in preventing fatal injuries. Investigators noted that wearing a seatbelt significantly increases a person’s chances of surviving a crash and helps prevent occupants from being ejected during a rollover.
Several hours later, a second fatal crash occurred on I-75 involving a 22-year-old Bradenton man. FHP said the driver was traveling northbound when his vehicle rear-ended another car. The impact caused his vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a tree.
The 22-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Following the two fatal crashes, the Florida Highway Patrol urged drivers to eliminate distractions before starting their trip by fastening seatbelts, securing children and putting away electronic devices before getting behind the wheel.
Both crashes remain under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
