Two Suspects Arrested After Robbing Undercover Detective and Firing at Deputy in Manatee County
Manatee County, FL – Two men were arrested following a tense confrontation with law enforcement on September 25, 2024, after allegedly robbing an undercover detective during a drug deal and shooting at another deputy.
The incident unfolded around 10 a.m., when an undercover detective conducted a drug buy with suspects Jacobs Harris, 24, and Jeremiah Burks, 23. During the transaction inside the suspects' vehicle, Harris and Burks allegedly brandished firearms and demanded the detective’s wallet. To avoid blowing his cover, the detective handed over his remaining cash before the suspects allowed him to leave the vehicle.
As the two men fled the scene in a silver 2016 Nissan Rogue, additional undercover detectives were dispatched to the area. Shortly afterward, the suspects lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a ditch. Harris and Burks then attempted to escape on foot through a nearby residential yard.
During the pursuit, Burks reportedly fired several shots at a detective pulling into a driveway in an unmarked vehicle. Fortunately, no one was injured by the gunfire. The pair were quickly apprehended by deputies after a brief foot chase.
Burks faces multiple charges, including attempted felony murder and armed robbery, while Harris has been charged with armed robbery, conspiracy, and fleeing from law enforcement, among other offenses.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as authorities continue to review the case.
