United Way Suncoast and Step Up Suncoast Partner to Offer Free Tax Preparation Services
Residents across Hillsborough, Pinellas, Manatee, Sarasota, and DeSoto counties can once again access free, reliable tax preparation assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, offered through a partnership between United Way Suncoast and Step Up Suncoast.
The VITA program is a federally supported initiative that helps individuals and families file accurate federal tax returns at no cost. United Way Suncoast serves as the regional coordinator for the program, overseeing public outreach and appointment scheduling to connect residents with services across the five-county region.
Step Up Suncoast operates the local VITA sites and provides direct tax preparation services. IRS-certified volunteers prepare and electronically file tax returns and assist with direct deposit, helping taxpayers avoid costly filing fees and ensure they receive credits for which they qualify. The program is available to individuals and households earning less than $85,000 annually.
Tax preparation services are offered at multiple locations from late January through mid-April, with walk-in and appointment-only options available at each site. Due to high demand during tax season, residents are encouraged to schedule appointments early.
By working together, United Way Suncoast and Step Up Suncoast aim to strengthen financial stability throughout the region. The VITA program helps residents keep more of their income, reduce financial stress, and access trusted tax assistance delivered by trained volunteers in their local communities.
