U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment Delivers Teddy Bears and Smiles to Manatee Memorial Hospital
Bradenton, FL – (December 17, 2025) - Manatee Memorial Hospital was filled with holiday spirit and heartfelt moments today as members of the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment – Rough Riders, joined by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Rick Wells, and representatives of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Department, made a special delivery that went straight to the heart.
Arms full of teddy bears and hearts full of generosity, the group delivered hundreds of cuddly companions to be shared with pediatric therapy patients, children visiting the Emergency Department, and patients who simply needed an extra hug. These soft bears may be small, but the comfort they provide is immeasurable.
For children facing therapy sessions, unexpected ER visits, or a tough day in the hospital, a teddy bear can offer reassurance, warmth, and a sense that someone cares. More than a gift, each bear represents kindness, compassion, and the healing power of human connection, especially meaningful during the holiday season.
“Our patients may not remember every detail of their care, but they will remember how they felt,” said Judy Young, MMH Chief Nursing Officer. “These teddy bears bring smiles, calm anxious moments, and remind our patients, especially our youngest ones, that they are not alone.”
Manatee Memorial Hospital extends its deepest gratitude to the Rough Riders and the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office for their continued commitment to our community and for sharing the simple, powerful joy of giving. Their visit was a beautiful reminder that sometimes the most meaningful medicine comes in the form of a hug, a smile, and a teddy bear.
