Walker’s Early Goal Lifts Sarasota Paradise to Historic First Club Victory
Sarasota Paradise secured a milestone moment in club history with a 1-0 victory over Portland Hearts of Pine, powered by an early goal from Aaron Walker and a standout performance in goal by Alex Sutton.
The match opened with immediate pressure from Sarasota, as Garret McLaughlin generated an early scoring opportunity in the third minute that was denied by Portland’s defense. Just minutes later, Jonathan Bolaños was taken down near the goal area, but no foul was called, drawing a strong reaction from the home crowd.
The breakthrough came in the seventh minute when McLaughlin’s shot was deflected by Portland goalkeeper Hunter Morse, landing at the feet of Walker. The midfielder capitalized on the rebound, firing the ball into the top left corner to give Sarasota a 1-0 advantage.
Sarasota maintained control and continued to create chances throughout the first half, while both Sutton and Morse delivered key saves to keep the score unchanged heading into halftime.
Portland increased its intensity early in the second half, narrowly missing a chance just after the restart. As the pressure mounted, Sutton rose to the occasion, using his size and positioning to block every attempt sent his way. The goalkeeper’s composure and consistency proved critical in preserving the lead.
As the match extended into stoppage time and the final whistle sounded past the 94-minute mark, the home crowd erupted in celebration, marking the first win in Sarasota Paradise club history.
The victory provides a significant boost in confidence for the team as it continues to build momentum early in the season.
Sarasota Paradise will return home on April 4 to face defending League One champions One Knoxville SC.
