West Manatee Fire Rescue Shares Halloween Safety Tips for Families
As Halloween approaches, West Manatee Fire Rescue is reminding families to make safety a top priority while enjoying the evening’s festivities.
The department shared key tips to help ensure a fun and safe night for trick-or-treaters and their families. Children are encouraged to stay on sidewalks, use crosswalks, and walk—never run—across streets. Carrying flashlights or glow sticks can make children more visible to drivers, and walking in groups with an adult nearby helps keep everyone safe. Residents are also advised to visit only well-lit homes and never enter a stranger’s house.
Fire safety remains another primary concern on Halloween. Officials recommend choosing flame-resistant costumes and keeping hems short to prevent tripping or accidental contact with open flames. Instead of candles, families should use battery-operated lights inside pumpkins. Children should be reminded to stay away from jack-o’-lanterns, fire pits, and any open flames while trick-or-treating.
Drivers are also urged to be extra cautious during the evening hours. Slowing down in neighborhoods, avoiding distractions, and turning on headlights before dark can prevent accidents as children cross the streets.
West Manatee Fire Rescue encourages everyone to plan ahead, stay alert, and make the night memorable for all the right reasons — ensuring Halloween is full of sweet treats and safe fun for the entire community.
