West Manatee Fire Rescue Urges Holiday Fire Safety Precautions
As the holiday season approaches, West Manatee Fire Rescue is reminding residents to take simple but critical steps to reduce the risk of home fires, particularly those involving Christmas trees and decorative lighting.
Fire officials emphasize the importance of keeping live Christmas trees well-watered, noting that a dry tree can become fully engulfed in flames within seconds. Daily watering helps prevent needles from drying out and significantly lowers the risk of ignition.
Residents are also encouraged to position Christmas trees at least three feet away from heaters, fireplaces, candles, and other heat sources. Holiday lights should be carefully inspected for damaged or frayed wires, and any defective strands should be replaced before use.
West Manatee Fire Rescue recommends turning off all decorative lights before going to bed or leaving the home, testing smoke alarms regularly throughout the season, and choosing flame-resistant decorations whenever possible.
Fire officials say the holidays are a time for celebration and togetherness, and following basic safety practices can help ensure the season remains both joyful and safe for everyone. West Manatee Fire Rescue extends holiday well wishes and encourages the community to remain vigilant during this busy time of year.
