Whiting H. Preston Named 2025 Manatee County Agriculturalist of the Year
Manatee County Farm City Week has named Whiting H. Preston the 2025 Manatee County Agriculturalist of the Year, recognizing his decades of leadership, innovation, and service to the region’s agricultural community. The annual award, traditionally kept confidential until its presentation, was announced during a meeting of the Bradenton Kiwanis Club.
Preston, a fourth-generation Manatee County farmer and lifelong Palmetto resident, has played a significant role in shaping the county’s fruit and vegetable industry. As owner and operator of Manatee Fruit Company and Manatee Farms, he has advanced his family’s legacy by implementing modern production practices, sustainable land management, and long-term strategies to strengthen the region’s agricultural foundation.
Under his leadership, the family’s operations have adopted innovative water and land conservation methods, enhanced food safety standards, and emphasized environmentally responsible practices that support both agricultural productivity and community well-being. These efforts have helped maintain Manatee County’s position as a leader in high-quality Florida produce.
Preston is also well known for his contributions to agricultural policy and statewide advocacy. He previously served as Chairman of the Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association, where he played an influential role in key issues involving labor, water resources, land use, and the long-term economic sustainability of family farming operations.
Beyond his professional impact, Preston and his family have been longstanding supporters of youth agricultural education and community initiatives. Their involvement includes scholarship programs, 4-H and FFA activities, and continued support of the Manatee County Fair. Through mentorship and community engagement, Preston has helped create opportunities for future generations of farmers.
Farm City Week organizers recognized Preston for his lifelong dedication, forward-thinking leadership, and enduring commitment to strengthening agriculture in Manatee County.
