Year-Round Hurricane Prep Just Got Easier: Essential Supplies Now Tax-Free in Florida
As of July 1, Floridians can now stock up on essential hurricane preparedness supplies without paying sales tax—all year long. Thanks to House Bill 7031, what was once a temporary tax holiday during the start of hurricane season has now been extended indefinitely for a range of critical items.
This new legislation aims to help residents stay ready for storm season at any time, making it easier and more affordable to protect families, homes, and property.
Tax-free items include:
Batteries
Smoke alarms and detectors
Fire extinguishers
Carbon monoxide detectors
Portable generators
Waterproof sheeting
Gas cans
Ground anchors
Tarps and more
Local officials encourage residents to take advantage of the savings by preparing early and revisiting their emergency supply kits regularly. For a full list of tax-exempt items, visit MyManatee.org/storm.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to build community resilience and improve disaster readiness across Manatee County and the state of Florida.
