Yorke Reaches Base Five Times in Doubleheader Split
Phelps, Pimentel, and Scherrer each collect homers in game two
The Bradenton Marauders (15-24, 46-58) split a doubleheader with the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (19-20, 56-48) on Friday from LECOM Park, dropping game one 6-4, and responding in game two, earning a 7-3 victory. Nick Yorke reached base five times during his rehab assignment, while Tre Phelps, Antonio Pimentel, and Luke Scherrer each clobbered game two homers.
In game one, Bradenton began the scoring in the bottom of the first. Robert Hassell singled, moved to second with a fielding error, and reached third on a passed ball to put a runner in scoring position. Yorke drove in Hassell with a sacrifice fly, putting the Marauders up 1-0.
After Fort Myers scratched across two runs in the top of the fourth, Bradenton answered back in the bottom half of the inning. Eddie King Jr. and Richard Ramirez notched back-to-back singles to put runners on second and first. A double by Brent Iredale scored King Jr. and Ramirez to make it a 3-2 ballgame. Iredale moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a passed ball.
The Mighty Mussels put together four runs in the top of the fifth, and the Marauders went scoreless the rest of the way to finalize a 6-4 win for Fort Myers.
In game two, the Marauders went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Yorke walked, reached second on a wild pitch, stole third, and came around to score on a throwing error.
Fort Myers put together two runs in the top of the second and a run in the fourth, but Bradenton responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Phelps blasted a solo homer, cutting the deficit 3-2.
Yorke led off the bottom of the fifth with a walk and moved to second on a disengagement violation. After reaching third on a single from Chris Rembert, Yorke was plated on a sacrifice fly by Phelps. Pimentel socked a two-run homer, putting the Marauders up 5-3.
In the bottom of the sixth, Scherrer homered, and Yorke drove in a run with an RBI single to make it a 7-3 ballgame.
Marauders reliever Dariel Francia closed down the seventh, finalizing a 7-3 win for Bradenton.
The Marauders and Mighty Mussels play the penultimate of a six-game series on Saturday with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
